History

In the year, 1991, the District & Sessions Division, Manipur having legal jurisdiction over the whole state of Manipur was bifurcated into two District & Sessions Division, viz., District & Sessions Division, Manipur East and District & Sessions Division, Manipur West. The Court of the District & Sessions Court, Manipur East had jurisdiction of the District & Sessions Division, Manipur East which spanned the Revenue Districts of the Imphal East including Jiribam sub-division, the Imphal West and the Ukhrul District.

Vide Order dated 16/05/2015 bearing No. 2/62/2016-Leg/L of the Law and Legislative Affairs Department, Government of Manipur, passed on behalf of the Governor of Manipur, the District & Sessions Court, Manipur East was re-designated as District & Sessions Court, Imphal East having jurisdiction over the revenue districts of Imphal East including Jiribam sub-division and Ukhrul District. Jurisdiction over the revenue district of Imphal West was handed over to the District & Sessions Court, Imphal West on renaming of the District & Sessions Court, Manipur West to Imphal West by the same order.

On establishment of the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, Ukhrul w.e.f., 16/01/2016 and vide Notification No. 2/62/2012-Leg/L, dtd. 14/01/2016 of the Law and Legislative Affairs Department, Government of Manipur, issued on behalf of the Governor of Manipur, the jurisdiction over the revenue district of Ukhrul, previously under the jurisdiction of this Court, was handed over to the District & Sessions Court, Ukhrul.

Presently, the territorial jurisdiction of District & Sessions Court, Imphal East extends to the district of Imphal East including Jiribam sub-division and has 5 (five) courts functioning under its jurisdiction;

1. Court of Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court, Manipur East
2. Court of Civil Judge, Sr. Division, Imphal East
3. Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East
4. Court of JMFC/CJJD, Imphal East
5. Court of JMFC/CJJD,Jiribam
